First Milk – by Panagiotis Papafragkos
The hands of men were like animals,
they were so hungry and self-contained.
I stood and looked at them for long and long.
And sheep were like people,
they were crying, dancing, laughing.
At the foot of Mount “Father”,
the so-called orphans followed us everywhere,
they were looking for their mothers.
And when Easter came
and some were slaughtered
we were crying, too.
Then they were born again
and so, little by little,
the herd was formed.
Seasons pass,
animals are born and die,
“First Milk” captures the cycle of life:
birth – death – rebirth.
