Farewell: And Suddenly Memory Began to Remember – by Ada Pitsou
The distinguished Greek psychοtherapist Toula Vlachoutsikou, now bedridden and suffering from dementia, started writing a book with stories about memory, when she started losing her memory. Twenty years later, her daughter, who has taken over her care, is making a film based on these stories, as well as on interviews with people who knew her in person. A film about dementia, care, trauma and the loving relationship between a mother and a daughter.
Ada Pitsou
Ada Pitsou studied in the USA. She received a double major in singing and composition from Bennington College in Vermont, and a master’s degree in composition from the New England Conservatory in Boston. She began her career singing in Manos Hadjidakis’ concerts and went on to write music for theater, dance and video art. Her personal discography includes 7 CDs released between 2003 and 2018. Her latest CD with the tile Amorgos which is also the soundtrack of her film Farewell: And suddenly memory began to remember was released in the UK. In 2018, she entered the Hellenic Cinema and Television School Stavrakos to study directing. She has directed three student films. Her short film Violence Unseen was awarded at the International Video Poetry Festival Athens and the Santiago Long and Short Film Festival. Farewell: And suddenly memory began to remember is her first documentary film. It premiered at the 26th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival and won the Audience Award
